This is natural sweetener of plant origin, has a very similar flavor and sweetness as sugar. It has a low glycemic index (GI = 7) - can be used by diabetics, does not cause jumps in blood sugar levels. It has almost 40% less calories than sugar. Should be introduced into the diet gradually (starting with ½ teaspoon per day). Recommended maximum intake of 10 teaspoons a day. Excessive consumption may cause a laxative effect.
